History of Medical Ethics

History and ethics are considered together.  The story of ethics is inextricably linked to the history of medicine.  In medicine, ethics addresses how to allocate scarce and expensive resources.  It includes choosing who will get kidney and other organ transplants.  It also includes the sometimes inappropriate marketing of quack medicine, such as laetrile.  Please see the sections below.
